Glowing golden foliage that holds its color all season and stays neat without constant shearing.
Thunderbolt® Box Honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida 'Golden Glow') is an evergreen shrub grown for its small, glossy, boxwood-like leaves in a vivid chartreuse-to-gold that brightens shaded corners and contrasts beautifully against deep greens and burgundies. Tiny, fragrant cream-white flowers appear in late spring, but the real draw is the dense, fine-textured foliage that keeps its luminous color through the growing season. With a compact, mounding habit of 3 to 4 feet tall and wide and a naturally tidy form, it works as a low informal hedge, a foundation accent, or a glowing filler in a mixed border.
Why growers choose the Thunderbolt® Box Honeysuckle
Year-round color. Bright golden, fine-textured evergreen foliage holds its glow far longer than most variegated or gold-leaf shrubs.
Naturally tidy habit. Dense, mounding growth of 3 to 4 feet means a clean, full look with far less shearing than traditional boxwood.
Cold-hardy and adaptable. Reliable in USDA zones 5 through 9, thriving in the part sun that brings out its best color.
Subtle spring fragrance. Small cream flowers in late spring add a light, sweet scent and a quiet draw for pollinators.
Versatile texture. The small leaves and dense form make it an easy stand-in for boxwood with a brighter, livelier tone.
Use it to light up a part-shade foundation planting, edge a path as a low hedge, anchor the front of a mixed border, or add bright contrast in a large container. Wherever it lands, the glowing foliage carries the design across all four seasons.
