Lilac-Purple Globes That Float Above the Late-Spring Garden
Purple Sensation sends up straight, leafless stems topped with softball-sized clusters of brilliant lilac-purple florets, held 24 to 32 inches high. Planted in groups of a dozen or more, those floating globes fill the gap between spring tulips and the first summer perennials.
It's an easy bulb that isn't fussy about soil, performing even in poor ground as long as it drains and gets full sun. Tuck a handful into borders, line a walkway, or plant a tight cluster in a large container for a bold patio display you can move wherever you need color.
Why You'll Love the Purple Sensation Allium
Bold late-spring color: vivid lilac-purple heads in May, right when most spring bulbs are fading.
Deer pass it by: pollinators crowd the blooms, but deer leave it alone.
Thrives in poor soil: no soil amending required, just sun and drainage.
Naturalizes easily: established plantings return and multiply year after year.
Cut-flower favorite: long, straight stems make architectural bouquets and dry beautifully.
Plant them this fall and let 25 purple globes surprise you in spring.
